System Design & Communication Sevices

Digital Consulting that actually makes sense

SDCS (System Design & Communication Services Ltd) is a small-but-mighty consulting practice based in Aotearoa New Zealand. We work with churches, charities, small businesses and social enterprises — helping them get the right tech, the right way, without the digital drama.

Founded by Peter Lane, SDCS combines decades of systems expertise with a hands-on understanding of what it takes to keep things running — from streaming Sunday services to selling tickets at the gate. We don’t just talk tech. We listen, build, fix, train, and translate the jargon into something you can actually use.

We believe the best tech is invisible: it just works. And when it doesn’t, someone picks up the phone. That’s us.

👤 Meet the Human

Peter Lane

Director, Principal Consultant, Event Wrangler, Systems Whisperer

Peter is a semi-retired technology consultant with a background in health IT, building services and digital systems, with a side hustle in hospitality and event work, and signifcant nonprofit governance experience.
He began his career in Health IT, supporting Queensland Health’s Home and Community Care Programme — experience that now informs his work with similar care-based and community-driven organisations. He later worked for the Peninsula & Torres Strait Islands Regional Health Authority (PTSRHA), providing IT and systems support to six regional hospitals and more than 80 remote community health centres — experience that built a deep understanding of how to deliver practical tech in places with limited local support.

Now based in Auckland, Peter works with mission-driven organisations, churches, and small teams to design smarter systems — and still finds himself slinging coffee or rescueing a livestream when someone calls in sick.

“I started SDCS because I saw too many good people using bad systems — or good systems badly. I wanted to help fix that.”

We know — policy pages are nobody’s favourite reading.

But ours is short, sensible, and surprisingly human.
